Freedom to be Creative

One of the biggest challenges in creative arts is the issue of control and censorship. Government initiatives are often tightly controlled to ensure that “responsible” management takes place. Good ideas are too often straight-jacketed by elitist rules and regulations, which diminish the foundations of innovation and creativity.

We know control is hard-wired into many people under the disguise of “public interest” by those who have a vested interest to protect their own turf, to gain financially from their position or to maintain the status of their role.

The challenge in building a truly free arts zone is to build in safeguards that prevent institutionalisation, unreasonable regulation and fiefdoms developing. Such safeguards should be written in a constitution and built in to the operational criteria. Good and bad ideas have a life of their own and will evolve naturally by time and through public opinion.

Creativity and innovation are always at risk in both the private and public sector because the innovator always puts control on the back burner as a later issue. The successful innovator is, in most cases, confronted by this perplexing challenge and this often manifests in frustration or disappointment.

Sydney Art Zone unreservedly wishes to create an ideas free art zone, uncensored and expressive of people’s ideas. Challenging ideas maybe . . . but possibly valuable to our future.

We want a place where people own their ideas, who can develop these ideas without financial stress or manipulation.

Help us get a place for us to set ideas free.
